【ビジネス英語】チームの一員として働くための7つのイディオム

多くの人たちにとって、社会に出てからチームの一員として働くことはとても重要なことです。そのことを反映するように、英語にもチームワークに関するイディオムや言い回しがたくさんあります。そこで今回は、チームの一員として働くことに関する、私のお気に入りの英語のイディオムを7つご紹介しましょう。

1. to build a team

チームの一員に誰を選ぶかを決め、チームとして上手くいくように手助けをする過程のことです。チーム内でよい職場関係を築いていく経過について、team buildingというイディオムを形容詞か動詞として使うこともできます。

例：“The accounts manager has built a strong team in his department. They go on team building activities every three months.”

2. to be a team player

チームの一員として上手く働ける人になることです。

例：“I love working with Dan. He’s a real team player.”

3. to gel

チームのメンバーたちがお互いによい関係を保ち、上手く一緒に働けることです。

例：“We’ve been working together for a month and the team is starting to gel.”

4. to touch base with someone

誰かと連絡したり、会ったりするという意味で、たいていは進展状況を話し合うときに使われます。

例：“I’d like you to complete this task then we’ll touch base on Monday to discuss the next steps.”

5. to catch up with someone

誰かと会って、最近自分がしていたことや、やっていた仕事について話し合うことです。

例：“Sorry I haven’t been around much recently. Can we meet on Monday? I’d like to catch up with you about what you’ve been doing for the last month.”

6. to step on someone’s toes

誰かがやりたいように仕事をすることを妨げるかもしれない行動をすること。

例：“I would love to help you by coding the website but Darren is our web designer and I don’t want to step on his toes.”

7. to bounce ideas off someone

誰かと考えを共有したり、何かについての良し悪しなどの意見を求めること。

例：“I’ve thought about what the poster should look like but can’t make up my mind. Can we meet up so I can bounce some ideas off you?”
